AqueousPro™50 is a product authorised by the World Health Organisation (WHO), and defined in the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) as a safe product for use in sterilizing potable water systems.

PWSA utilizes AqueousPro™50 to sterilize rainwater tanks during the Quadclean™ process, and to sterilize water filtration systems.

5.1.1 What is AqueousPro™ 50?

AqueousPro™50 is a chemical that is used in the PWS process for cleaning tanks and clean water plants. AqueousPro™50 products are ecological and offer universal antiviral disinfectants. PWS operators use AqueousPro™50 in the QuadClean™ process, and where required. AqueousPro™50 is not for distribution to customers (see AqueousPro™ (7.9%) in section 4.3 of this module for customer grade sanitiser solutions).

5.1.2 Physical Description/Properties

5.1.3 Contamination in Drinking Water Plants

Accompanying substances in drinking water form calcareous, ocherous, and sinter deposits on the walls and surfaces of drinking water tanks and reservoirs, thereby providing ideal growth conditions for algae, bacteria, fungi, etc.

In order to avoid the growth of germs on the surfaces of tanks, as well as in the drinking water itself, the drinking water plants should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected on a yearly basis.

5.1.4 AqueousPro™ 50 - Product Description

The special cleanser AqueousPro™50 was especially developed for the cleaning and maintenance of drinking water installations such as tanks, reservoirs, wells, filters, pipe systems, water treatment plants, etc. With the application of the special cleanser AqueousPro™50, the deposits on the surfaces are thoroughly dissolved and can be washed away easily with a high-pressure spray gun.

Thanks to the effectiveness of the product, hitherto protracted operations can be simplified and cut down to a minimum. The use of telescopic lances saves the time and cost of erecting any scaffolding.

5.1.5 Effectiveness

The chemically pure organic and inorganic acids contained in AqueousPro™50, together with biologically degradable surfactants are ideally suited to eliminate algae, iron, lime, manganese and other deposits in a very short time.

5.1.6 Procedures for Handling AqueousPro™ 50 at full concentration

AqueousPro™50 contains 50% Hydrogen Peroxide, which is a powerful oxidizer. Chlorine and Bromine are also oxidizers, as are many other chemicals. Oxidisers can burn skin tissue and can initiate heat that can lead to combustion. Be familiar with the AqueousPro™50 MSDS for safe handling and storage.

AqueousPro™50 is a high quality sanitiser for water that is relatively safe to handle. However, it looks like water and does not have a distinctive odour like halogens (chlorine, bromine, etc). Therefore, it can be easily confused with water, so it requires diligence at all times, careful handling and distinct identification for all others who do not know what might be in the containers.

Use the proper gloves (gauntlet length Neoprene is advisable) at all times when handling.
Use appropriate eye protection at all times. Apply common sense; it’s not that difficult
Have on hand water (and soap) for washing at all times as a precautionary measure. Minor spillage or splashes can occur even when careful. Wash any contact of the skin immediately.
If you get a splash in the eyes, wash IMMEDIATELY with plenty of water for more then 5 minutes.
Immediate dilution is the key to reducing or eliminating any subsequent problem from contact. Immediate first aid has to be the only priority. Safety first at all times.
AqueousPro™50 is safe and easy to handle provided reasonable and sensible precautions are taken.
Instruct others to stand clear at all times when you are handling liquid out of the container in a measuring jug. You do not need to be unnecessarily distracted by others who do not understand the importance of safe handling of all chemicals, or from curious onlookers.
NEVER permit children or other (un-informed) adults to have any contact with the chemical. YOU are responsible entirely for its safe handling.
If chemicals are decanted into other (smaller) containers, it MUST BE distinctly labelled.
Accidents most commonly occur from a lack of clear identification of the contents. YOU are liable, so apply common sense at ALL TIMES.
If decanted into a smaller container, it must be in a dangerous goods approved container, with a vented cap (because it slowly releases oxygen). This is essential.
There is no room for any short cuts. Do it once, do it right. Or don’t do it at all!
