By law, and according to the Franchise Agreement, you are required to have a Bank account that has been opened by the entity that has purchased the Pristine Water Systems franchise, and the appropriate insurances.

These should have been established prior to your induction training.

2.2.1 Banking

A business bank account is required. There are many suitable banking systems available for you to use. In most cases, new PWS Franchisees utilize the services of the bank they conduct their personal business with. Just remember, you can always switch banks. And although many are daunted by this task, it isn’t that difficult.

There are some key facilities you will want to ensure you have available to you, even if you are not using them now. These include:

Online Banking facilities
Low Fees/Charges
Mobile EFPOS machine – this can save you having to chase debtors
Scheduled/auto payments.
Printable (online) statements
Syncing/downloading facility that can integrate with bookkeeping software.

As discussed later in this module, your Franchise Agreement stipulates specific payments on a periodic basis. You can have these automatically scheduled in most online banking facilities, saving you the time in making regular payments.

When you open a business bank account, you will need to ensure it is opened in the entity name that you operate under. Eg. Pristine Water Systems – (Franchise Trading Name).

The purpose of this account is to:

Keep the business separated from personal accounts.
Enable customers to pay via Cash, Cheque, Credit Card / Eftpos or Direct Deposit into the business bank account.

2.2.2 Insurance

Pristine Water Systems Australia has specific requirements when it comes to the type of Insurance you need to operate and run your PWS franchise.

You are required to provide a Certificate of Currency or a copy of the policy to PWSA on an annual basis, as defined in the Franchise Agreement.

While, as per the Franchise Agreement, you are able to source your own insurance policies to meet the minimum requirements, PWSA also provides a collective policy of insurance for Franchisees to consider.

For Public Liability Insurance, you do need to ensure sufficient cover is provided for Dangerous Goods and Treatment Risk. These can, at times, be quoted with insufficient cover to meet the minimum requirements of the Franchise Agreement.

Dangerous Goods

Provides cover for the transportation of dangerous goods to the value of $1 Million.

Dangerous goods can include things such as Diesel, Petrol, Flammable Liquids etc.

The cover protects the clean-up costs, damage caused to third party property, damage to the insured vehicle stemming from a dangerous goods incident.

Treatment Risk

Provides cover for the treatment of water up to the liability sum insured of $10 Million.

When chemicals or balances are added to water inside tanks and wrong ingredients or measurement are accidentally added the rectification costs are included.

There is also cover for injury or harm to persons stemming from treatment risk (ie: client drinks contaminated water that is the fault of PWS franchise operator).

This is quite an important cover we have included in our liability policies for PWS Franchises since they are dealing with purifying drinking water.

Insurance requirements for franchise owners (+ employees if applicable):

Franchise Owner Requirement:

Commercial Motor Vehicle (incl. Plant & Equipment) Cover (Comprehensive insurance).
Broadform Liability Cover (Public liability insurance - $10Million)
Any other insurance reasonably required.

Requirements with employees:

Worker Cover – (QLD / NSW / ACT / VIC etc). WorkCover is a Government Body which provides compensation for workers who are injured during their employment.

Optional (recommended):

Other optional insurances may include:
Income Protection Insurance.
General Property (Tools of Trade Cover) Eg. Plant and equipment insurance.
Life / Total Permanent Disability Insurance.
